The European Commission has closed a further five infringement proceedings
against Malta, bringing the number of infringements closed in the last four months to 23, the government said.

The following are the five infringement proceedings closed today:

- Infringement concerned the implementation of the judgement of the European Court of Justice of 1 October 2009 concerning Directive 2001/80/EC on the limitation of emissions of certain pollutants into the air from large combustion plants ("LCP Directive") in relation to the operation of the Phase One steam plant of the Delimara power station and the power station at Marsa. The Commission considers that Malta is compliant with the Directive;

- Infringement on the implementation of the Directive establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy (Water Framework Directive). Malta has submitted the Water Catchment Management Plan to the Commission in compliance with the Directive;

- Infringement of Directive  on ship-source pollution and on the introduction of penalties for infringements;

- Infringement of Directive on banks affiliated to central institutions, certain own funds items, large exposures, supervisory arrangements, and crisis management;

- Infringement 2011/0269 of Directive  on common standards and procedures in Member States for returning illegally staying third-country nationals.
