Official EU statistics show that consumption in Malta fell by 3.6 per cent last year, confirming the drop in people’s purchasing power, the Labour Party said yesterday.
While Malta’s consumption figures were down, average EU consumption increased by 0.7 per cent, Labour economic spokesman Charles Mangion said in a statement.
The government’s lack of willpower to protect consumers also meant the prices of essential products such as food and medicines had increased more than the EU average, he said.
