According to data published by Eurostat, the annual inflation rate in the 15 member states of the EU fell from 1.8 per cent in May 2002 to 1.6 per cent in June 2002. In June 2001 inflation in the EU was 2.8 per cent.
Inflation in the 12 countries of the Eurozone was also 1.8 per cent in June 2002. The Eurozone is made up of Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.
In Malta, the latest figures published by the National Statistics Office of Malta show that the inflation rate during May 2002 was 3.64 per cent, 0.01 per cent less than April 2002. Inflation during May 2001 was at 1.89 per cent.
