The annual inflation rate in the 15 member states of the European Union rose from 1.6 per cent in June 2002 to 1.8 per cent in July 2002, the statistical office of the European Communities, Eurostat said.
In July 2001 inflation in the EU was 2.5 per cent.
Inflation in the 12 countries of the eurozone was 1.9 per cent in July 2002. The eurozone is made up of Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.
In Malta, the latest figures published by the National Statistics Office of Malta show that the inflation rate during June 2002 was at 3.54 per cent, 0.1 per cent less than in May 2002.
Inflation during June 2001 was at 1.95 per cent.
