The European Union has ended the suspension of funds for educational programmes and has started issuing payments in terms of €1.7 million made available for Malta.

The funds were suspended in May last year as the European Commission complained of mismanagement in the European Union Programmes Agency (EUPA) in Malta.

Following an inquiry by the Maltese authorities, the permanent secretary at the Education Ministry and two other senior officials involved in the running of the programmes resigned from their posts.

A spokesman said the Commission is satisfied with the work done by Malta to better manage the Lifelong Learning and Youth in Action programmes.
