In November, 2002, the rate of unemployment in the 15 member states of the European Union remained at 7.7 per cent, the same as in October, the statistical office of the European Communities, Eurostat, said yesterday.

This represents 13.6 million unemployed men and women. The unemployment rate in the EU during November, 2001 was 7.4 per cent.

In Malta, the latest Labour Force Survey, carried out in June, 2002 by the National Statistics Office, shows that the number of unemployed persons during that month was estimated at 11,049 or 6.9 per cent.
