The unemployment rate in March in the 15 EU member states was 7.6 per cent, unchanged since February 2002, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities.

In March 2001, the rate had also stood at 7.6 per cent.

In Malta, statistics from the Employment and Training Corporation give a rate of 5.1 per cent for December 2001, while the statistics based on International Labour Organisation criteria give a rate of 6.5 per cent for December, the last figures that are available.

The Eurostat figures are based on ILO criteria.
