Eucharistic communities meet in Victoria church

There are currently 10 such communities across eight parishes in Gozo

Gozo diocese Eucharistic communities met at the Capuchin church in Victoria for a prayer service and catechesis led by Mgr Frankie Bajjada. The meeting focused on the theme of the Eucharist in Franciscan spirituality, since the Franciscans are this year celebrating the Franciscan Jubilee Year marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi.

The Eucharistic community is a journey of faith which, through the proclamation of the Word of God and catechesis, helps lay people, together with a priest, to grow in their knowledge of the Bible. It is a form of adult catechesis, where people from all social backgrounds and professions meet weekly in their respective parishes. The methodology is structured around four moments: a catechesis prepared by members of the group; sharing; Eucharistic adoration; and the celebration of the Eucharist, followed by a fraternal agape.

These communities were introduced in Gozo more than 20 years ago and there are currently 10 such communities across eight parishes.

The communities are open to new members who wish to embark on a journey of faith and discover the beauty of reading the sacred Scripture. The bishop’s delegate for these communities is Mgr Ġużepp Attard.
