The Archbishop, Mgr Joseph Mercieca, is attending the autumn plenary meeting of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community being held in Brussels tomorrow and on Friday.
The Maltese Episcopal Conference is an associate member in COMECE together with other episcopal conferences of EU candidate states.
The meeting will focus on the relations between the EU and its Mediterranean and Eastern European neighbours as from 2004.
The bishops will discuss sectors such as migration, control on frontiers, economic and social reforms and dialogue between cultures and religions.
Other subjects on the agenda include the intergovernmental conference which is currently discussing the draft European constitution, the EU enlargment next May and the challenge of solidarity in Europe and in other regions of the world.
