Vacation is the theme of the Europa stamp issue for 2004 which will be issued by the Maltapost philatelic bureau on Wednesday.

The stamps, the work of designer and photographer Joe P. Smith, are in two values - 16c and 51c.

The 16c stamp shows the blue Mediterranean, with the Senglea seafront in the foreground and Vittoriosa in the background. The photographer has managed to capture children jumping into the water to cool off.

The 51c stamp shows a scene which must have been captured on film hundreds of thousands of times - the famous Hagar Qim prehistoric temples.

The stamp issue will be available from all Maltapost branch post offices in Malta and Gozo, from the Maltapost mobile unit and from the Maltapost philatelic bureau at the Marsa head office. The set will be available in First Day Cover format, mint or cancelled, as a souvenir folder and also as a presentation pack.

Details regarding this and other past and forthcoming issues are obtainable from the Maltapost philatelic bureau via telephone 2123 9153, fax 2122 0789, e-mail philately@maltapost.com and website www.maltapost.com.
