The congress of the European Athletic Association (EAA) is to convene in Cannes, France, on Saturday where the main item on the agenda will be the election of a new council for the next four years.
It has been known already that two top officials on the council will be retaining their posts since they are uncontested. These are president Hansjorg Wirz and Karel Pilney, the treasurer.
Some 23 delegates will be contesting the 13 vacant seats. Among the contestants are some who have already served on the council before including Anton Shulek. The Hungarian will be looking to retain his post as vice president.
Very familiar to the Maltese association are the two delegates coming from the small states of Cyprus and Iceland - Antonios Dracos and Jonas Egilson. Both are seeking re-election.
There are some new big names included in the list of candidates, better known for their prowess in track and field. These include five-times Olympic gold medal winner Valeriy Borzov and triple jump world record holder Jonathan Edwards.
At the congress, the MAAA will be represented by its president Anthony Chircop.
He is also scheduled to have meetings with IAAF president Lamine Diack and Wirz.
The MAAA will be hosting the next continental administrative event after the congress, the EAA Calendar Meeting.
This will be staged between October 11 and 13. Around 320 delegates are expected to attend.
