Thirty-two Rover scouts from Malta, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania and Spain took part in a week-long camp in Malta and Gozo as part of an Erasmusplus youth exchange project entitled Farm2Fork.
Project manager Josmar Azzopardi said the project went beyond the usual scouting boundaries. Using a learning-by-doing approach the youths took part in an orienteering food-themed hike, kayaking, visits to farms, debates and outreaches to teenagers.
The main themes touched upon during these activities included health and well-being, rural development, urbanisation, intercultural and intergenerational education, lifelong learning, food security, supply chains and food waste.
The experience ended with an international evening in Xagħra Square, where the participants cooked traditional food for the public to taste.
The camp was opened by Parliamentary Secretary Chris Agius. The project was financed by Erasmusplus and held in collaboration with Fish4Tomorrow, Meusac and Permaculture Research Foundation.
