AEGEE-Valletta, the local branch of AEGEE-Europe, is organising various activities for European students being hosted by them in Malta for this year's AEGEE-Valletta Summer University 2002.
AEGEE is one of Europe's largest interdisciplinary student associations, which promotes a unified Europe, cross-border cooperation, communication, integration among students and strives to create an open and tolerant society for tomorrow.
AEGEE is represented in 271 university cities in 40 European countries and has over 17,000 members.
It does not use a national level approach but relies solely on local groups, called antennae, in university cities all over Europe.
Following the success of previous years, the AEGEE-Valletta committee has planned a full two-week programme in Malta.
The summer university commenced on Monday with a welcome party, sponsored by Cisk Export and Kinnie, at Surfside in Sliema.
The foreign youths have the opportunity to explore the historical and cultural heritage of Malta and Gozo. They will also attend lectures on the Maltese language, the impact of religion and politics, cooking and folklore.
