The first estimate for eurozone trade with the rest of the world in August 2004 showed a three billion euro surplus, compared with +€7.2 billion a year earlier, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities, said.

The July 2004 balance was +€12.8 billion, compared with +€12.4 billion in July 2003.

In August 2004, the value of exports, seasonally adjusted, remained nearly stable (+0.5 per cent) compared to July 2004, while the value of imports increased by 3.4 per cent.
