Live concerts by Maltese singers, rock bands and an evening of Neapolitan songs are among highlights in this year's Evenings on Campus, now on at the university at Tal-Qroqq.

Evenings on Campus, which continues until August 29, is organised by the Koperattiva Universitarja in collaboration with the University of Malta and sponsored by the Bank of Valletta.

Martin Mangion, BOV's university branch manager, presented the sponsorship to Anna Catania.

Ms Catania said that since the first edition 11 years ago, Evenings on Campus has established itself as a favourite event within the local cultural calendar thanks to quality performances and the collaboration of university academics, non-academics as well as the students themselves.

Evenings on Campus kicked off last month with a cartoon exhibition featuring the best satirical visuals published in the press during this past year, and a concert by Kay Foster Jackson.

A film festival featuring six films organised by the University Film Club is again being held as part of the festival.

Two films have already been shown. The others are Children of Heaven to be shown on Friday, 'Angels and Insects on August 13, Il Consiglio d'Egitto on August 22, Pinocchio (in Italian) on August 26 and Sex and Lucia on August 29.

Screening time is 8.45 p.m.

A live concert themed 'Delicately Powerful' will feature Nadine Axisa, Karen Polidano, Julie Zahra and Olivia Lewis on August 21. Two male voices, Ludwig and Roger Tirazona, will be accompanying the singers in romantic duets.

'Campus Unplugged' is another musical event that will feature three of Malta's top rock bands, Beangrowers, Scream Daisy and Corkskrew, on August 23.

Lovers of Neapolitan songs should not miss a performance by Franco Teodoro Tommasi who will bring to life the musical tradition of the south of Italy on August 28.

Performances start at 8.45 p.m. but a literary evening on August 26 will start at 7.30 p.m.
