A former police constable was yesterday charged with conspiring to deal in about a kilogramme of heroin, trying to corrupt a public officer and breaching administrative law enforcement regulations.

Jean Pierre Abdilla, 29, of Zurrieq, pleaded not guilty to conspiring to deal in heroin, trafficking in the drug and possessing it on and before March this year.

Mr Abdilla also pleaded not guilty to trying to corrupt a public official to go against his duties, the illegal possession and importation of bird carcasses or parts of them, breaching several ALE regulations and committing crimes he was in duty bound to prevent.

Magistrate Dennis Montebello granted Mr Abdilla bail against a Lm2,000 deposit and a personal guarantee of Lm3,000.

Police Superintendent Neil Harrison, Inspector Dennis Theuma and Inspector Alex Miruzzi prosecuted.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Gavin Gulia appeared for Mr Abdilla.
