I am a 60-year-old Brit now living in Malta and have just spent nine days in St Luke's Hospital. The building is indeed old and tired, as for the food, well, a liking for cold cabbage does help!
But, and this is the only real point - I have never received such excellent medical care in any of my spells in hospitals, whether in the UK or elsewhere in Europe.
My particular thanks must go to Prof. Mallia and his team, to the staff of ward M3, who somehow cope with 45 plus beds on a 33 bed ward, and to the one and only Prof. Fenech who did unspeakable things to the inside of my heart while serenading me with a selection of Frank Sinatra's Greatest Hits!
Finally, to the delightful Prof. de Marco - feeling miserable in hospital is so much easier when one has a pretty face to look at!
