The Foundation for Human Resources Development and the UK's Centre for Labour Market Studies at the University of Leicester have each bestowed their top awards to the Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta. This is a double achievement for a hotel that, not one year ago, was beginning to find its feet as a major competitor in the Malta 5-star hospitality market.

The awards scheme has twin objectives: to promote human resource management and development to give a professional standing to human resource management in Malta. These awards formally recognise those organisations that have invested in their people and that have adopted innovative human resources practices, irrespective of their size or the sector that they operate in.

To this end, the Excelsior has created the Grand Academy, a €100.000 investment in the career advancement of its staff - a key element in Excelsior's HR strategy. The Grand Academy is based on an internal, on-line resource learning capability that has been made available for all Excelsior staff. The Grand Academy is designed to help them acquire new skills while building Excelsior's luxury 5-star quality standards. SkillSoft, the software company that supplied this training programme, has developed an industry-accredited programme recognised by the hospitality industry.
