On the first floor of the University Library at Tal-Qroqq there is at present a Maltese medicinal plants exhibition. This has been made possible with the generous help of Lija council.
Both the layout and the explanatory notes are of a high standard and so facilitate public awareness of the importance of local flora.
The Argotti Gardens Section of the University is to be praised for actively participating with herbarium exhibits and the Melitensia section of the University Library for exhibiting rare books on the subject.
Lija council has earned the praise of the few culture-conscious students who were the only people who could view the exhibition in the place it has been set up.
The venue of this highly educational exhibition falls far short of the requirements for a wider audience that the exhibition deserves.
It is my plea that this exhibition be put up again in a more accessible place in Malta and Gozo and that schoolchildren will be encouraged to visit and thus learn to love and care for the flora of our islands that with ever increasing urbanisation stands a good chance of total obliteration.
