The Fondazzjoni Belt Victoria is holding an exhibition of works by Peter Heywood of Yorkshire at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria. The artist was invited to exhibit in Gozo by the foundation, the Gozitan Salesians, and Fr Charles Cini. The subject of his paintings are various, the most conspicuous being Gozo scenes such as Il-Kappella ta' L-Ghonq (left), Sta Lucija Square and church, streets and balconies and band marches. Mr Heywood was born in Yorkshire in 1944. He is a self-taught artist and by the early 1970s had exhibited at the Paris Spring Exhibition, and a number of galleries in the UK. He moved to Cape Town in 1995 and held exhibitions there and in Venice. In 2002, Peter and his twin brother Donald Heywood, also a renowned painter, bought an apartment overlooking the Grand Harbour from where he has been inspired to paint Maltese scenes. He held a one-man exhibition at the Caraffa Stores, Vittoriosa, at the Casino Maltese, and at Cleland & Souchet, Portomaso. He derives much satisfaction from fund-raising for worthwhile causes in Malta through the sale of his paintings. His painting auctioned at the Malta Charities in London last November raised over Lm1,000. The exhibition is open until May 8, Monday to Friday from 7.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., Saturdays from 7.30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon.
