Ex-MP flags Roseanne Camilleri direct order to police

Ex-MP Jason Azzopardi has formally notified the police about a direct order given by then Primary Healthcare CEO Roseanne Camilleri to a company linked to her partner Anthony De Bono.
Earlier this year, Azzopardi passed on a tranche of e-mails to investigators showing how Camilleri signed off on the direct order to Handson Systems in 2023, without declaring a conflict of interest.
In correspondence with the Finance Ministry dated March 2023, Camilleri officially declared she had no conflict of interest in requesting the “urgent” €43,000 direct order be given to Handson Systems.
At the time of the direct order, De Bono was still registered as a shareholder and director of Handson System’s parent company.
According to Camilleri and Hanson Systems, De Bono relinquished his shares in the company in 2022 but bureaucratic stumbling led to a delay in registering the share transfer with the business registry.
The police declined to say if they are investigating the case when contacted by Times of Malta.
An internal probe during her time as Primary Healthcare CEO found a “collapse of good governance principles, total disregard to basic internal controls and absolute departure from the concepts of transparency and fairness”.
The government’s Internal Audit and Investigations board recommended last year that “disciplinary action” be taken against Camilleri and another Primary HealthCare executive.
Camilleri was successfully nominated for the role of ambassador to Liechtenstein in April.
The nomination was not without controversy, not least because PN MP Adrian Delia received threats from De Bono after a parliamentary grilling in which he questions Camilleri’s suitability for the ambassador role.
De Bono “threatened” Delia by saying he would call several people that the MP had previously crossed paths with and attempt to sour their relationships.
He also said he would speak to someone’s “team to make it easier for [Delia] to have an excuse to not contest the next election”.
Delia has called on Ian Borg to withdraw Camilleri’s nomination as ambassador. Despite the threats faced by the PN MP, the foreign minister said he would abide by the decision of the parliamentary committee.
De Bono later “retracted” the threats, thereby halting parliamentary proceedings against him.
