Gozitan artist Mark Sagona is to present his fourth solo exhibition of paintings in Valletta tomorrow.
Entitled Visions Of Light, the collection consists of around 20 abstract works in oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas produced in recent months.
The new paintings show Mr Sagona's artistic evolution since his successful exhibition at St James Cavalier in 2004. Light has always played a vital role in his multi-faceted art and has now become the theme of the collection itself.
The paintings have now acquired a chromatic intensity and a captivating force. One marked difference between this collection and the previous one is the absence of specific themes for each painting. Now the artist concentrates on one single concept.
The 30-year-old artist, who also lectures on art history at the University of Malta, is publishing a 32-page full-colour exhibition catalogue to accompany the exhibition.
It will be held at two venues: at the Vee Gee Bee Art Gallery in Republic Street, Valletta, between tomorrow and April 29 and at the art..e Gallery in Library Street, Victoria, between May 5 and 26.
The Valletta exhibition will be opened by Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech, who will also launch a new version of the artist's website.
The exhibition will be open between Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. It opens on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
