Express Trailers marked its 30th anniversary with a €400,000 investment that increased its fleet by four carriers.

This investment is part of a €2.3 million investment that the company incurred over the past two years to upgrade its fleet in order to continue to serve the Maltese industry and economy on European roads, director business relations, Jonathan Vella, said.

The four new Volvo Power-Trains are Euro 5 compliant which means that they have low carbon emissions and are fuel efficient. They join a fleet of over 200 machines in Malta and overseas.

Mr Vella added that the company, part of the Vella Brothers Group, wanted to continue to meet the current and future requirements of clients.

Transport Minister Austin Gatt, who attended the inauguration of the new trailers, praised the company for what it had achieved since it was set up in 1978.

"The government fully supports anyone who wants to upgrade their transport fleet as government is working on a transport reform. We cannot continue to work with machines that are 20 to 40 years old and have high carbon emissions," he said.

He added that Express Trailers' vision had proven that Maltese companies could be successful outside Malta so long as they were ready to offer an efficient and competitive service.

He said that he agreed with the company's philosophy that Malta can be a logistics hub for Europe given its central location in the Mediterranean.
