The Association of Parents of Children in Church Schools expressed solidarity with the parents of the children who were injured in the accident involving a school coach transporting children of St Monica School and a route bus and, in particular, with the parents of those two children who were hospitalised.

The association said that on impact a number of the school children fell on the floor, some suffering facial injuries and others having their spectacles broken.

Had the children been wearing seat belts the incident might have had less serious repercussions, it said.

The association also praised the driver of the school bus who went to great measures to take care of the schoolchildren, even though he himself was injured.

The association felt it should single out this exemplary behaviour of the driver, as normally only bad reports of bus drivers are mentioned in the media.
