The Maltese are known for their outgoing personalities (maybe too much) and for always helping out where and when needed. However, there are two things which can never be argued upon: village feasts and politics. One can imagine what happens when the two subjects are mixed together!
In Hekk Alla Jgħinni we encounter a young and charismatic doctor, Michael Micallef (Joseph Galea) who is persuaded by his friend, Silvio (Aaron Fenech), to candidate himself, firstly as the new president of the local band club, then for the general election.
After Dr Micallef is elected to parliament and sworn in as the Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly, his life changes drastically leaving no time for his personal issues, such as his relationship with Claire (Elaine Saliba Bonnici), who is constantly reminded by her uncle Dun Pawl (Vince Micallef Pule) of her sinful loving relationship with the doctor. What are the consequences of power and fame?
The play is produced by Galea and Carlos Farrugia and written by Brian Bonnici. Actors Maria Laura Fenech, Gilbert Mallia, John Vassallo, Kim Woods and Ryan Caruana also star in the show.
Hekk Alla Jgħinni is on at Spazju Kreattiv, St James Cavalier, Valletta, on Saturday and Sunday and on April 16, 17 and 20 at 8pm; and on Good Friday at 10.30am. For more information and tickets call 2122 3200 or visit www.kreattivita.org.
