The Gasan Mamo Sevens tournament for youths was played last weekend. Under the watchful eyes of Director of Rugby Damian Neil, the day started with Falcons topping the U-13 category, narrowly beating Gladiators 19-17.
Falcons then walked away with the U-15 title to set the stage for a thrilling U-17 competition that saw some excellent play from most of the country's junior internationals.
A notable try was scored by Malta U-18 captain Matthew Ward. He plays for Alligators.
In the match against Falcons, Ward crashed through the Falcons defence in a 60-metre dash to score in the corner.
Falcons went on to beat Alligators, however, to set up a decisive match against Kavallieri.
Falcons relied mostly on the fine play of captain Italo Quelch. He created several openings with strong evasive running. Kavallieri produced a creditable display but Falcons pulled away in the closing minutes to make sure of their third title on the day.
