Family day at Villa Rundle brings together people of all ages
Offering a host of activities, the event fostered a sense of community spirit
Villa Rundle gardens in Victoria came alive last Sunday with a fun-filled, family-friendly event aimed at bringing together people of all ages. The gathering, held under the theme of unity and tradition, celebrated the bond between generations through a variety of activities.
The day began with mass celebrated by Mgr Anton Borg, setting a warm and reflective tone. In his homily, Mgr Borg drew inspiration from St Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Mgr Borg encouraged the elderly present to continue contributing to the community, reminding them that their wisdom and words of comfort remain a valuable gift to others.
The programme included craft exhibitions, interactive games, inspiring talks and other activities designed to appeal to children, youths and the elderly alike. It was a day dedicated to community spirit, shared traditions and intergenerational connection.
Adding colour and rhythm to the event was the Tal-Fuklar Folk Group, who entertained the crowd with popular folk songs. Their lively performance encouraged the audience to sing and dance along, creating moments of joy and nostalgia. Children and the elderly also joined in, moving to the music and clapping along. Sharing a thought on the event, the music group’s leader said: “We are proud to continue promoting our folklore and Maltese traditions, keeping them alive for future generations.”
Visitors also had the opportunity to explore several information stalls set up by organisations offering services for different age groups, including Santa Marta Day Centre, Caremalta Group, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority, Loving Gozo Art Workshop, Casa Amalia, Casa Giuseppe and Gozo Elderly Care, which falls under the Gozo Ministry’s cap.
Children were entertained to games and received crafts as little gifts.
