Corinthians continued their miserable start to the Brazilian championship on Sunday when they were thrashed 5-1 by rivals Sao Paulo, prompting one angry fan to attempt to attack coach Daniel Passarella.

Police and security men prevented the supporter from reaching the former Argentina captain and coach after he invaded the pitch at the start of the second half, when Corinthians were already trailing 3-0.

Five minutes later, more Corinthians supporters ran onto the pitch, apparently angry at their team's dismal performance.

The defeat left South America's most expensive team with only one point from their first three games and heaped the pressure on Passarella, who has been in charge for two months.
