Farmers were paid compensation of €86,383 after a sewage overflow last year contaminated their fields in Mellieha near the sewage treatment plant.

Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt said the area, including water sources, were extensively cleaned by the Water Services Corporation.

The compensation funds were withdrawn from funds owed to the contractor who was responsible for the building of the sewage treatment plant and its infrastructure.
