Father with rare leukaemia raises over €80,000 - but needs hundreds of thousands

Without life-saving treatment, Sandro Grech has "weeks left" to live

A young father who is battling a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia has raised over €80,000 for life-saving treatment, which, without it, doctors said he will have only “weeks left” to live.

Sandro Grech, 41 and father of two young girls, has for the past three years undergone intensive chemotherapy and two bone marrow transplants from his brother. His only remaining chance of survival is a highly specialised CD7 CAR-T clinical trial available in Singapore, which costs €500,000.

As of Friday afternoon, he raised € 80,219, less than 24 hours after Grech set up his whydonate page.

“Time is critical. Without this treatment, doctors estimate that Sandro has only weeks left,” the fundraiser set up by Grech read.

“His greatest wish is simple: to have a chance to watch his daughters grow up. Any contribution, no matter the size, can help give Sandro the chance he deserves — the chance to live, to fight, and to return home to his family."
