Favourite Rosalinds Ax wins Class A1 race

It was an all-trotting card yesterday at the Marsa racetrack for the 28th meeting of the season.

All races were scratch events on the 2,140-metre distance with the Class A1 race being the main attraction in the programme. Charles Degiorgio led Rosalinds Ax to victory in the best race of the day. He was the meeting's top driver with two wins.

It was Esard, fresh from obtaining promotion from Class A, that led the Class A1 trotters for most of the distance but in the final straight it could not withstand the final burst of speed from favourite Rosalinds Ax. This trotter went on to win the race ahead of Jason RP. Esard had to settle for third place.

Rosalinds Ax clocked an average of 1:16.4 per kilometre.

Dino De Bonnefille, driven by Benny Briffa, won the first of the two Class A events thanks to a strong dash along the last 150m.

The other race in Class A was more or less a carbon copy of the previous one. This time it was Julian Farrugia's Hollyfield which reached the post first.

Both Dino De Bonnefille and Hollyfield were promoted to Class A1.

Patriarque, under the control of Charles Degiorgio, grabbed the lead half a lap from the end to go on and win the Class B race and eventual promotion to Class A.

The Class C event was won by Tender Times, driven by owner Joe Polidano, after taking the lead early in the race.

The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, starting at 2.30 p.m.
