The two band clubs of Kalkara said yesterday they disagreed with the Curia's decision to cancel this year's feast of St Joseph, saying this was too harsh a punishment on the people of Kalkara following troubles which probably had nothing to do with the organisation of the feast.
St Joseph Music Society and Circolo San Giuseppe Filarmonika Sagra Familja said in a joint statement they had deplored the incidents and promised the Curia that they would work towards unity in the parish.
Indeed the two committees had had various cordial meetings, leading to the drafting of an agreement which was presented to the Vicar General on May 31.
The bands said they would mark significant anniversaries this year.
The Sagra Familja band will hold a feast between June 17 and 23 which will include a march with the statue of the Holy Family while St Joseph Band will celebrate its anniversary between July 17 and 21. That feast will include a march with the statue of victorious Malta.
