Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Ħamrun
New bandmaster Mro Joseph Chircop to lead concert on July 3
The Għaqda Mużikali Immakulata Kunċizzjoni of Ħamrun, together with the Immaculate Conception parish church, are preparing for the parish’s feast, which falls on July 5.
The celebrations start today, as the titular statue is removed from its niche.
Following the 6.30pm mass, the statue will be carefully drawn out on a wheeled cart with the assistance of the children in attendance before being placed in the centre of the church for veneration. All children are invited to take part in this special ceremony and help bring out the statue for the feast celebrations.
The musical society’s programme of activities will culminate on July 3 at 8.30pm with a vocal and instrumental concert presented for the first time under the direction of the new bandmaster, Mro Joseph Chircop, and held under the patronage of President Myriam Spiteri Debono.
The statue during the festa procession.The concert, entitled Sinfonia Maltija, will feature the Gozitan folklore group Ogygia and several singers, including Mike Spiteri, Ritienne Azzopardi, Neville Refalo and Zaira Chetcuti.
The programme includes popular Maltese songs such as Fjura fil-Kantina, Fit-Tieġ tan-Neputija, Xemx, Tfajjel Ċkejken, L-Ewwwl Tfajla Li Ħabbejt, Kemm Hu Sabiħ and Wellidni, and an Enzo Guzman medley, among others.
The concert will end with the popular hymn, Lejk Tifħir Immakulata and the anthem of the Immakulata Kunċizzjoni band.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the concert, which will take place on the musical society’s platform in Triq Kappillan Mifsud.
Donations will be collected in aid of the Community Chest Fund.
Seating will be provided, while free parking will be available at the ex-Liceo, San Ġorg Preca College, Ħamrun.
On the day, fresh flowers will also be offered by parishioners to the statue of the Immaculate Conception in Pjazza Kappillan Muscat.
