Following the reports of the felling of carob trees on a site in Marsaxlokk, we had promised to keep you and your readers briefed with the outcome of the investigations being undertaken. The following is an update of the situation to date:

The Nature Protection Unit Inspectorate, within MEPA, has today established the identity of the person involved in the felling of the tree specimens in question and has subsequently written to the Commissioner of Police in order to initiate criminal action according to the Trees and Woodlands (Protection) Regulations, 2001 (LN 12 of 2001).
