ETC has launched a new campaign aimed at encouraging more women to study engineering, IT and sciences.

This campaign is being launched at the same time as applications for MCAST and University courses in these areas are open.

Traditionally, these three areas of study are dominated by men. However, there is much scope for women to follow these careers. ETC's spokesperson for this campaign is young judoka Michelle Grech.

Ms Grech won two silver medals during the 10th edition of the Games of the Small States of Europe. She also holds a degree in engineering from the University of Malta and is currently reading for a Ph.D. in Human-Machine Interaction at the University of Queensland, Australia.

Ms Grech is an excellent role model in this respect. Her message is that women can do this sort of work.

Many women are already involved in these fields, women who also have an active life outside work.

Thus, the campaign's slogan is "Girls can do it too: it's fun and it pays!" Careers in science, engineering and IT offer women better wages, the chance to be creative and work in a team and also the opportunity to contribute towards progress.
