The UEFA Cup opponents of Maltese clubs Birkirkara and Valletta obtained contrasting results in domestic matches yesterday.

Hungarian cup winners Ferencvaros, Birkirkara's opponents in the qualifying round of the UEFA Cup, lost 2-0 to champions MTK Hungaria in the Super Cup.

Neuchatel Xamax of Switzerland, who were drawn against Valletta in the UEFA Cup, maintained their unbeaten start to the league when seeing off St Gallen 2-0. Neuchatel have maximum points from their first two games.
