The festival of folk singing organised by the National Folklore Commission within the Department of Culture starts tomorrow at the Argotti Gardens in Floriana.

The festival continues until Sunday.

Well known local ghannejja and guitar players will be interpreting various forms of folk singing, including the popular spirtu pront - improvised verses and rhymes.

Special guests this year are the vocal group Katice from Slovenia, the Aragonese ensemble Hato de Foces, Xarabanda, promoters of Madeira`s traditional music, and the Italian mandolin and guitar duo Duo Classico Napoletano.

Maltese food and wine at reasonable prices will be available.

The participants, including the foreign groups, will also be performing between today and Friday at the Cafè Premier in Valletta, with the programme starting at 11 a.m.

A seminar on "Ghana and folklore music in today`s world" will be held at the Forum Hotel in St Andrew`s on Saturday at 9 a.m.
