On September 7, the president of the Foundation for Human Resources Development, John Muscat Drago, launched the human resource awards for 2005. The aim of these awards is to officially recognise those entities and organisations, irrespective of their size and sector they operate in, that have invested in their most important resource - people.
Mr Drago stated the FHRD is offering two awards, namely the Best Human Resource Initiative and Excellence in People Management (Malta). The FHRD president stressed that "the success of any entity very much depends on how people are led, managed and motivated.
"Hence it is worth investing in effective human resource management and development practices."
The launch then continued with a detailed presentation by FHRD chief executive officer Maria Pia Chircop in which she outlined the procedure for the submission of reports, the scoring attached to these two awards and the support offered by the FHRD.
The launch was well attended by members of the judging committee who are: Edmund Tabone, chairperson; Mario Grixti, secretary; Dr Andrew Borg Cardona, Anne Marie Thake, Joshua Zammit and Joe Vella Bonnici. Valuable contribution was also given by Felix Borg. This event is being co-ordinated by FHRD executive Sandra Agius.
A second presentation was given by the CEO on September 14. In all, 14 interested companies attended the presentations. These companies hailed from the construction industry, banking, finance, training and retail services, manufacturing, IT, education, and telecommunications sectors.
The closing date for the submission of all documents is October 14. Those who are interested and have not attended these two presentations can contact Ms Chircop on 2137-8895 or e-mail mpchircop@fhrd.org to collect the necessary documents.
