Owners of filling stations have decided to open as normal tomorrow after having been assured by Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt that Enemalta officials will call to check their stocks.

The station owners are demanding compensation of the price difference on their stocks following the decision announced by the government on Saturday to reduce prices by around 20 percent.

A station owner told timesofmalta.com that many had stocked up for the Christmas period and could make losses of between €15,000 and €25,000.

The owners, who are represented by the GRTU, held a meeting this morning.

One of their spokesmen said the minister had not actually assured the owners of compensation and the owners were not ruling out industrial action of such compensation was not made. He said the compensation was being demanded because of the extent of the price difference.
