The New York Film Academy (NYFA) recently appointed the European Institute of Education (EIE), Ta' Xbiex, as its local representatives in Malta. The academy's courses cover disciplines required for film production, such as camerawork, set mounting, sound and lighting and involve both theory and practice.
Students are required to produce a series of short films. The NYFA was set up in 1992 and is today considered a leader in film production education. It is a recognised college in California and confers degrees from its campus in Los Angeles. It is accredited by the National Association of Schools and design (NASAD) which is the only US association authorised to recognise visual arts courses.
