The Aquatic Sports Association (ASA) yesterday announced that a FINA-backed waterpolo referees clinic will be held in Malta between January 20 and 21.
Some important rules were changed, or amended, at the last FINA Congress, the ASA said in a statement. Some are clear while others may give rise to different interpretations.
As announced during the last Annual General Meeting, the Executive has applied for FINA's support to organise the seminar. The world governing body of swim sport has just informed the ASA that it will be funding the visit of a lecturer under the FINA Development programme. The ASA has proposed that Gianni Lonzi, chairman of FINA Waterpolo Technical Committee, conducts the clinic.
The venue and programme have not been finalised yet. However, in all probability, the first session will be held on January 20 and continues the next day.
With the imminent introduction of a licence, it is imperatively important for clubs and prospective coaches to attend this clinic, the statement added. 'The Rules of the Game' will form an integral part in the curriculum that is being prepared for the Coaching Licence Course.
The ASA, meanwhile, advised clubs to urge their officials who in some way have a close contact with the game, particularly those who are normally on the benches, to attend the clinic which is also open to sports journalists.
