After so many years, the karozzin horses in Valletta got a temporary shelter and will soon get a permanent canopy, which will hopefully cater for all the horses and not just the four catered for by the temporary shelter. Better late than never.

Animal Rights Malta takes the opportunity to thank all individuals and organisations who never gave up, attended public protests and persistently wrote letters to the press to put pressure on the government to give the horses the much needed and deserved shelter.

Let us hope the government now brings the whole issue to a conclusion by enacting the new regulations on working hours and conditions (including the provision of water facilities) of working horses, following the submission of draft regulations by the sub-committee on horses to the Animal Welfare Council over a year ago. Animal protection organisations will not be satisfied until the horses get all the protection they deserve.
