A 24-year-old driver was fined €1,500 after driving his BMW into a karozzin and injuring the cabbie.

Yousef Essesi also had his driving licence suspended for 30 days. He admitted to negligently hitting Paulseph Pirotta and injuring him.

The accident happened on August 6 of last year in St Anne’s Street, Floriana. Mr Essesi also admitted driving his car without a driving licence and relapsing.

Mr Pirotta said in court that this was simply an accident, however, as a result, he had fractured his hand and his carriage was damaged. Although he could still drive, including his karozzin, he was still suffering the consequences of his fracture one year on.

Still, he said he would not resort to further criminal action since Mr Essesi had cooperated and the costs of the damages were settled by the insurance of the accused.

Police inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted.
