This was a fair result in a match that Birzebbuga St Peter's dominated for long stretches but failed to convert the chances that came their way.

The draw favoured Melita who are now sole leaders, two points ahead of Sta Lucija.

Birzebbuga started on the offensive and were dangerous in the early stages through efforts from Marco Sultana and Ronnie Celeste.

Five minutes from the break, Birzebbuga were awarded a penalty for a foul by Aaron Sciortino on Darren Prendergast and Antoine Sacco put his team ahead from the spot.

Sta Lucija took only three minutes to redress the imbalance when they were also awarded a penalty for a foul on Liam Cutajar.

Melvin Agius shot the ball in the Birzebbuga net from the spot.

After the break, Birzebbuga had several chances to regain the lead but were denied by some fine goalkeeping from Sta Lucija's Brincat.
