A 22-year-old man of Gzira was yesterday fined Lm200 after he pleaded guilty to causing slight injuries to a local warden earlier in the day.
The warden, Darren Decelis, 26, of Mosta, was assaulted while carrying out his duties. The incident started in San Gorg Street, St Julians, at about 10.45 a.m. when the local warden was diverting traffic in view of construction works there.
The police said that some time later officers who were inside the St Julians police station decided to investigate when they heard an argument close by. Outside they saw a local warden with facial injuries. Galea was arrested and arraigned before Magistrate Joseph Cassar in the evening. Among other things he was charged with causing slight injuries to Decelis.
Galea pleaded guilty. He was fined Lm200 and barred for one year from in any way approaching Decelis.
Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.
