Guests and staff were evacuated from a hotel in St Paul's Bay on Monday morning after a fire broke out on its top floor.

The blaze at the Pebbles Resort was reported at about 9.15am.

People inside the Triq il-Kaħli hotel were safely escorted out of the building as firefighters worked to put out the flames.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Hotel manager, Rodney Pisani said investigators are still trying to identify what caused the fire, but that it could be linked to an electrical short circuit.

He said the small fire took place on the fifth floor, which is not accommodating any guests at the moment.

"It was a very small fire, there was actually more smoke than fire," he said.

"We decided the safest plan was to evacuate the hotel and guests and call the fire engine, which came in just four minutes - very fast and efficient"

He said that the situation is now under control and the hotel is functioning once more.
