A minibus caught fire as it was being driven north along the Mellieħa bypass on Tuesday.

The incident happened at 10.30am and no one appeared to have been injured, the police said.

A fire engine from the nearby Xemxija fire station doused the flames, but the vehicle was extensively damaged. 

The road was partly closed during the fire-fighting operation.
