The Malta Tourism Authority will present the fourth edition of the Malta Fireworks Festival on April 29-30. The event will be held in connection with the first anniversary of Malta's entry into the European Union.
The MTA said Grand Harbour had once again been chosen as the site of the festival because it offered "probably one of the most breathtaking views in the world", encompassing the forts of St Angelo, Ricasoli and St Elmo, as well as the Valletta and Senglea fortifications.
During the festival, three fireworks factories will each give a spectacular pyro-musical (fireworks synchronised to music) display. The 15th August Fireworks Factory of Mosta, the St Mary Fireworks Factory of Mqabba and St Michael's Fireworks Factory of Lija will demonstrate their ability in the craft under the computer-controlled system of the world's most advanced firing technology called 'FireOne'.
On the final night, a fireworks display synchronised to music will also be presented by the world-renowned Orzella fireworks company from Italy.
Apart from these displays, 10 other local fireworks factories will be demonstrating their abilities in the field of traditional Maltese fireworks. On the Friday night there will be a special display of large mechanical ground fireworks.
On both nights, there will be a 20-minute audio-visual show about the Knights of Malta and the Great Siege of 1565. This show will include projections on Fort St Angelo, light effects, pageantry and special fireworks effects.
The area around Lascaris Wharf will be the focus of other activities, which will be taking place during the festival, including band marches and traditional Maltese food. However, the highlight of the festival will be the fireworks displays themselves.
The festival is being organised by the MTA's Product Planning and Development Directorate. More information may be obtained from the MTA via e-mail: events@visitmalta.com and the MTA's events Website: www.maltafestivals.com
