A sum of Lm5,000 had been raised up to 6 p.m. yesterday during the 48-hour fishing marathon held by the Kingfisher Sport Fishing Association.
The marathon, which started on Friday and was due to end late yesterday, raised funds for the Puttinu Cares Children's Support Group. It was held at the Sliema waterfront opposite the Nazarene church.
This was the ninth edition of the marathon, with the proceeds going towards a different philanthropic organisation every year.
Taking part this time were 32 anglers divided in eight teams. All the fish caught were kept in nets, in one cubic metre of water and set free after three hours when each net was weighed. The team with the biggest catch would be declared winner.
A total of 95kgs of fish were caught, the biggest fish being a Mullet of 720g. Other fish caught included Sea Bream, Wrasse, Dentex, Gurnards and Plaice.
The anglers had a surprise yesterday morning when they were served breakfast by waiters from the Westin Dragonara.
