Robert Arrigo, the Sliema Local Council Mayor, yesterday launched the Kingfisher Sport Fishing Association annual marathon which this year will be held at The Strand.
Funds will go towards a new Multi-Sensory Project at Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija - the Park of Friendship in Marsascala.
The marathon starts tomorrow evening and comes to a close on Sunday. The event will be officially opened by Minister for the Environment Francis Zammit Dimech.
The KSFA has been holding the marathon since 1998.
In all, 11 teams will be taking part in this 48-hour rally of non-stop fishing. Each team will be composed of four members, alternating between them throughout the marathon. Weighing sessions will take place every three hours.
Prizes will be given to all team members for first, second and third overall weight. Donations for ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija will be collected throughout the activity through sponsor forms and ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija personnel.
The Multi-Sensory Project, costing around Lm100,000, is aimed for persons with disability to enjoy a very wide range of sensory experiences for therapy, learning, relaxation and fun. Others may make full use of this facility for physiotherapy and stress release, among others.
